A 10-Minute Chinese Learning Routine for Ages 4โ€“7

A short daily routine is easier to repeat than an occasional long lesson. Use the same rhythm while changing the character or story.

  1. Minute 1โ€“2: look at one character and listen to its pronunciation.
  2. Minute 3โ€“5: follow the stroke order and trace slowly.
  3. Minute 6โ€“7: choose the character or meaning after listening.
  4. Minute 8โ€“9: find the character in a picture or bilingual sentence.
  5. Minute 10: celebrate one thing the child remembers and stop while it is still positive.

Let the child control the pace

Some days the listening activity will be the easiest entry point; on other days, writing will be more engaging. Keep the routine predictable but allow the child to repeat, pause, or finish early.
